This Privacy Policy describes how Knotwell handles personal information. We try to write it in plain English — when a section needs legal precision, we say so. Knotwell is in Creator Beta; some sentences describe the planned general-availability behaviour.
Scope
This policy applies to Knotwell’s website, marketplace, Creator Beta application, and creator dashboards. It does not apply to third-party sites a creator links to from their profile or asset page — those sites collect data under their own policies.
What we collect
We collect three categories of information.
Account information. When you sign up, you give us your email address and a password. You may also give us a display name and a handle. The application form asks for an asset type, a description, a goal, and a referral source.
Transaction information. When you buy, we receive a payment confirmation from our payment processor. We never see your card number. When you publish, we record the asset record, the share you set, and the upstream parent chain.
Technical information. When you visit Knotwell, our servers and our proxy partners receive your IP address, user-agent, referrer, and a cookie or local-storage identifier we call kw_anon_id. We use this to keep your session consistent across pages and to measure marketplace traffic.
How we use it
We use the categories above for these purposes.
- To run Knotwell — sign-in, payouts, marketplace display, dispute response.
- To read every Creator Beta application personally. We use the application fields to decide whether Knotwell fits the work you publish.
- To send transactional emails — application confirmation, payout receipts, security alerts.
- To detect abuse, fraud, and platform abuse at the request level.
- To improve Knotwell — aggregate-ish analytics on which assets and chains get traction.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not run third-party advertising on Knotwell.
What we share
We share information with a small set of processors — companies that help us run Knotwell under contract.
- Payments. Stripe (or a successor payment processor) handles card data, KYC for payouts, and payout disbursement. Stripe’s privacy practices apply to the data it receives.
- Authentication. Our auth provider stores a salted hash of your password and a session record. They do not see your Knotwell content.
- Email. Transactional and support emails are routed through an email proxy that signs for delivery. Marketing email is opt-in and only goes to people who chose to receive it.
- Analytics. First-party analytics only. We do not embed third-party analytics tags that fingerprint your device for cross-site tracking.
We may share information when required by law or to protect Knotwell, creators, or buyers — for example, in response to a valid subpoena.
Retention
Account records are kept for the life of the account plus a reasonable period after closure (for fraud and tax-compliance purposes). Application records are kept while we’re reviewing you and for 24 months after. Server logs are kept for 90 days unless needed to investigate abuse.
Children (COPPA)
Knotwell is not directed to children under 13 (or under the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has signed up, contact support@knotwell.co and we’ll close the account.
Your choices
You can update your profile, change your handle, edit your creator bio, and close your account from your settings page. You can ask us to delete data we control by writing to support@knotwell.co — we’ll action the request within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
International transfers
Knotwell is operated from data facilities in the United States with backup in the EU. When you use Knotwell from outside those regions, your information is transferred to and processed in those regions.
Changes
We may update this policy. When we do, we’ll post the new version and update the “Last updated” date above. Material changes get a notice by email or in-product announcement.
