Knotwell does not guarantee sales, income, royalties, or enforceability of user-supplied custom terms. Creators are responsible for confirming that they own or have permission to publish every asset.

Overview

Knotwell pays creators the upstream share we routed on every successful sale, minus the platform fee and minus any refunds or chargebacks applied to the order. Payouts are processed through our payment processor — a creator must hold a verified payout account to receive funds.

Payout threshold

The minimum payout threshold is set on the creator’s payout-settings page. If your balance is below the threshold at payout time, the balance rolls forward until the threshold is reached or you request an early payout (if enabled in your jurisdiction).

Knotwell reserves the right to delay or hold any payout that we suspect is tied to fraud, a chargeback, or a copyright dispute. Those holds are described in the Disputes section below.

Timing and hold period

Knotwell does not guarantee sales, income, royalties, or enforceability of user-supplied custom terms. Creators are responsible for confirming that they own or have permission to publish every asset.

Payouts are issued after a buyer’s purchase clears the standard platform hold. The hold period is the time between a buyer paying and the funds being eligible for payout, and it exists to absorb refunds and chargebacks before money leaves the platform.

Fees

The platform fee is the percentage you set at publish time on top of the upstream share total. The fee covers payment processing, the platform itself, dispute handling, and the public profile + asset-record infrastructure.

Payment-processing fees charged by Stripe (or a successor processor) are netted out of the settled amount and are not an additional charge on top of the published price.

Taxes

You are responsible for your own taxes. Knotwell may withhold or report earnings where required by law in your jurisdiction; where reporting thresholds apply, they are described in our Tax FAQ (forthcoming). Knotwell does not provide tax advice.

Locations

Payouts are available in any region where our payment processor supports disbursement. Some regions may be on a waitlist while we complete per-jurisdiction compliance work. The current supported regions are listed in the payout-settings page.

Share changes

Knotwell does not guarantee sales, income, royalties, or enforceability of user-supplied custom terms. Creators are responsible for confirming that they own or have permission to publish every asset.

If you change your upstream share after publishing, the new share applies to sales initiated after the change. Past sales are not retroactively re-split — the share that was set at the time of the original sale is what the chain routed.

Disputes

A buyer-initiated dispute or chargeback may reverse the routed shares even after a payout has been issued. If your payout balance is positive at the time of the reversal, we deduct it from your next payout. If your balance is zero or negative, we may carry the negative balance forward or invoice you for the amount, at our discretion.

Portability

Your asset records and your creator profile are yours. If you close your account or move to another platform, you can export your published asset metadata (titles, descriptions, license terms) at any time from your settings page. Pending earnings above the threshold are paid out as part of the close-account flow.

Changes

We may update this payouts policy. Material changes will be announced by email or in-product with at least 14 days’ notice.
